Magdragon II (130 X 28 X 6.5m) is a Floating Transfer Station owned and operated by Citic Pacific Mining and is part of the Sino Iron Ore Project, the largest magnetite mining and processing operation in Australia. Operations take place 100km south west of Karratha in Western Australia’s resource rich Pilbara region.
Two 3000 Series E-Cranes unload magnetite from ocean going barges shuttling between the port and outer anchorage where there is enough draft to load Baby Cape vessels (112,000 DWT). The FTS operates 24/7 and has recorded a monthly loading rate of 1.5 million tons. On an annual basis over 14 million tons is handled.
Magdragon II has a design loading rate of 4,000 tons per hour while the cranes are capable of handling over 2,500 tons per hours each. Daily loading rates of 65,000 tons have been achieved resulting in Baby Capes being loaded in well under 48 hours.
E-Crane’s superior operating speeds and reliability make them the ideal fit for offshore operations.
