De aanleg van de Tweede Maasvlakte verloopt volgens planning. Dat is dinsdagochtend gezegd tijdens een bijeenkomst over de voortgang van het project.
Er is tot nu toe 129 miljoen kubieke meter zand opgespoten, de helft van het totaal benodigde in de eerste fase. Momenteel zijn de bouwers bezig met het realiseren van de 3,5 kilometer lange kademuur.

Maasvlakte klaar voor enorme blockbuster
De beweegbare onderarm moet nog worden gemonteerd net als de grijper die de grote betonnen blokken vastpakt en op hun plek legt. Maar dan kan de reusachtige “blockbuster” – die de harde zeewering voor Maasvlakte 2 gaat bouwen – aan de slag.
De één heeft het over het hunnebed van Rotterdam; de ander noemt het Stonehenge aan de Maas. PUMA heeft tijdelijk 1000 grote betonnen blokken geparkeerd op een hoekje van Maasvlakte 2.

Met zwarte en witte fourwheeldrives rijden we het nieuwe land op over een net aangelegde asfaltweg. Het doet denken aan een convooi met vips. Een jaar geleden was dit de zee, maar nu is het een langgerekte zandbank met hier en daar een bulldozer of een graafmachine. Na een paar kilometer staat een grote bouwkeet, waar bouwvakkers bezig zijn met het aanleggen van de eerste kade.
De Tweede Maasvlakte is nog lang niet klaar, maar krijgt wel steeds meer vorm. De bouw ligt op schema en de kosten blijven binnen de perken. Dat is ook de boodschap die de projectorganisatie...
Aanleg Maasvlakte 2 op schema
De Tweede Maasvlakte krijgt steeds meer vorm. Meer dan de helft van de 240 miljoen m3 zand die nodig is, ligt op z’n plek.

Blockbuster growing larger and larger (The Netherlands)
The largest stones to become part of the future hard seawall will be 40-ton concrete blocks. The Blockbuster will soon be positioning the blocks in the sea at a distance of some 50 m off the shore. They will serve as a breakwater for the stony dune. This will ensure that the Maasvlakte 2 seawall can weather the heaviest storms – ones that occur once every 10,000 years.

The approximately 20,000 concrete blocks that are required for this operation will come from the existing block dam that protects Maasvlakte 1. A floating crane (backhoe) is currently picking up the blocks...

Successful E-Crane installation at PPG Natrium
