KMJ first started to operate their E-Crane in 2019 at Muara Berau outer anchorage in East Kalimantan close to Samarinda. As a result of the successful operation during the first couple of years, in early 2022 the decision was taken to invest in a second identical floating E-Crane.
Both crane barges were built in Batam, after which the cranes were installed in the same shipyard and towed to Kalimantan.
Experience shows that the floating E-Cranes can comfortably be used in wave heights of up to 2.5m while rope cranes in the same area need to cease operation at wave heights of 1.5 m.
This presents KMJ with a clear advantage, especially in combination with 40% energy savings, the excellent reliability of the E-Cranes as well as the high loading rate (daily rates of over 25,000 tons have been reached).
