The Carinox melt shop requires a continuous supply of scrap, making 24-hour, 7-day-a-week scrap yard operation essential. Harsco Metals therefore needed a material handling system capable of reliably unloading incoming scrap, managing stockpiles, and continuously filling the mill’s large scrap baskets. Availability is critical because interruptions in the scrap handling process can directly affect melt shop production. As the operation expanded toward its design capacity of one million tons of stainless steel per year, additional scrap handling capacity was required.

E-Crane developed a high-capacity scrap handling solution designed around the continuous demands of the Carinox steel mill. Following the successful operation of the first two machines, a third E-Crane was added to provide additional capacity and support the final phase of the mill’s major investment program.
