The Challenge:
Combining Heavy-Duty Shear Feeding with Greater Yard Flexibility
River Metals Recycling needed a material handling solution capable of reliably feeding its massive 3,000-ton Henschel scrap shear while performing additional tasks throughout the scrap operation. Replacing several conventional material handlers also created an opportunity to simplify operations and increase equipment versatility. Environmental performance was another important consideration for RMR, including reducing energy consumption and avoiding the oil changes and potential fuel spills associated with internal combustion engines. The new machine therefore needed to combine heavy-duty scrap handling, flexibility, and efficient electric operation.
“… the biggest differences between a big excavator and the E-Crane® are the reach (104 ft/31,7 m) and the impressive view because the cab is 60 ft (18 m) up in the air.”

The Solution:
One Versatile E-Crane for Multiple Scrap Handling Tasks
River Metals selected an E-Crane solution that could handle the primary task of shear feeding while remaining productive between shear cycles. The rail-mounted, electric configuration gives RMR the flexibility to use one machine across several important scrap handling activities while supporting the company’s environmental objectives.
