The Challenge:
Building a Flexible Transload Operation for a Next-Generation Steel Mill
Kinder Morgan needed a state-of-the-art material handler to support the new SeverCorr Steel Mill by transferring incoming material from barges to trucks for transport to the nearby facility. The company carefully evaluated several equipment manufacturers based on design, construction, service life, operating efficiency, economy, and parts and service support. The new machine also needed sufficient height for trucks to drive underneath it, while providing the versatility to handle different materials and attachments. Just as importantly, Kinder Morgan wanted a solution capable of meeting current production requirements while providing additional capacity for future growth.
“We looked carefully at several manufacturers’ equipment, considering each machine from the standpoint of design, construction, reputation, service life and overall operating efficiency and economy, as well as parts and service backup. E-Crane® wasn’t a difficult choice. We’ve had previous experience operating a similar model E-Crane® at an installation in Venezuela for five years now, and it has performed as expected.”

The Solution:
A Purpose-Built E-Crane for Barge-to-Truck Transloading
E-Crane worked closely with Kinder Morgan and the other project suppliers to develop a machine around the specific requirements of the new transload facility. The resulting configuration combines reach, lifting capacity, electric operation, and attachment flexibility in one purpose-built material handling solution.
