The Challenge:
Expanding Bulk Handling Capacity at the Deep Port
The Port of Kokkola’s strategic location in mid-west Finland and strong road and rail connections make it an important hub for bulk material handling. After extending the Deep Port quay, the port needed additional loading and unloading capacity to support its growing operations. The new crane had to handle both zinc concentrate and iron ore efficiently while providing the precision required for demanding ship loading and unloading operations. High transloading capacity and low energy consumption were also key considerations in the selection process.
“This project was the ‘easiest’ one in all my time at Port of Kokkola: E-Crane fully understood our wishes, and we were extremely pleased with how the negotiations, technical meetings and training sessions went.”
Torbjörn Witting – Port Director, Port of Kokkola
The Solution:
High-Capacity Bulk Handling with Precise Control
The Port of Kokkola selected E-Crane’s balanced crane technology to combine high bulk handling capacity with precise operation and low energy consumption. The rail-mounted configuration provides the reach and flexibility required to efficiently serve the extended Deep Port quay.
