The Challenge:
Creating a Flexible Barge Unloading System for Aggregate
Mulzer needed an efficient barge unloading solution for its Shamblin Stone operation that could reliably handle large volumes of aggregate. Flexibility was equally important, as the company wanted to be able to move the unloading operation to different locations as requirements changed. Rather than creating a permanently fixed terminal, Mulzer required a system that could be transported as a complete unit. The positive experience with its first barge-mounted E-Crane provided a proven foundation for expanding this approach to the Dunbar operation.
“Unloading as much as 4500 tons in a 10 hour shift is not a problem for this model E-Crane®, we are very satisfied with this material handler after unloading 142 barges with it.”
Mr. Robert Caruthers – Shamblin Stone
“The machine is performing well and meeting our expectations. Normally when we commission a new machine there are always some issues to work out. With E-Crane®, those issues were addressed quickly and the machine is operating very smoothly. We have since purchased our third E-Crane® and are expecting it to be delivered this week.”
Mr. Don Gengelbach
The Solution:
Mobile Barge Unloading with Proven E-Crane Technology
Building on Mulzer’s experience with its first E-Crane, the second machine was configured as a floating unloading system for the Shamblin Stone operation. Mounting the crane and receiving equipment on separate barges provides an efficient material flow while allowing the complete system to be relocated when needed.
