The Challenge:
Replacing an Aging Crane That Was Holding Back Production
Kinder Morgan’s existing diesel-powered cable crane was creating both operational and maintenance challenges at the Port Sutton terminal. The machine consumed extensive amounts of diesel fuel, while increasingly frequent maintenance was beginning to interfere with production. Repairs were also expensive, adding to the overall cost of operating the old crane. Kinder Morgan therefore needed a more reliable and economical ship unloading solution capable of increasing capacity while reducing downtime.
“Our old cable crane presented various operational and maintenance issues. For one thing, we used an extensive amount of diesel fuel. The E-Crane® uses electric power, so we’ve gained a major cost savings there. Also, the maintenance of the old crane was beginning to interfere with our production, and the repairs were often expensive.”

“We have been extremely pleased with E-Crane® equipment and personnel right form the get-go and through all phases of the project.”

The Solution:
Electric Ship Unloading for Port Sutton
E-Crane worked closely with Kinder Morgan and its engineering firm to develop the new ship unloading solution, providing complete and detailed drawings throughout the project. The selected 1500 Series configuration addressed the terminal’s requirements while replacing the maintenance-intensive diesel cable crane with an electric equilibrium crane.
