The Challenge:
Streamlining Soybean Transshipment on the Amazon River

Amaggi needed an efficient solution for transferring large volumes of soybeans from river barges into ocean-going vessels on the Amazon River. A conventional logistics process would require cargo to be transferred to a warehouse on land before being loaded onto the export vessel, adding another handling stage and increasing transfer time. The operation also demanded the reach and capacity required to serve Panamax-sized ships while handling large payloads in every cycle. Amaggi therefore needed a high-capacity midstream transfer system capable of moving soybeans directly from barge to ship.

The Solution:
Direct Barge-to-Ship Soybean Transfer

E-Crane provided Amaggi with a floating bulk handling solution designed specifically for high-volume midstream transfer. By positioning the E-Crane directly on a barge, the operation eliminates the intermediate land-based handling stage and creates a direct link between incoming river barges and Panamax vessels.

The solution includes:

A 3000 Series / 30382 PD-E E-Crane with 38.2 m / 125.5 ft reach, providing the working range required for midstream transfer into Panamax-sized vessels.
A 30.0 m³ / 39.2 yd³ hydraulic clamshell grab, capable of transferring up to 22.5 metric tons of soybeans in a single cycle.
A barge-mounted configuration on a 61 m x 22 m x 4 m barge, creating what the original case describes as the largest river midstream transfer operation performed by an E-Crane at the time.
A 630 kW / 845 hp electric motor, supporting high-capacity bulk handling with peak soybean transfer rates of up to 1,400 metric tons per hour.
