The Challenge:
Increasing Grain Export Capacity on the Mississippi River
CHS Myrtle Grove Terminal is an important link in the agricultural supply chain, connecting grain producers with customers around the world. As demand for faster and more efficient material handling increased, CHS needed to expand the terminal’s capacity while keeping large volumes of agricultural commodities moving reliably through the facility. The barge unloading operation needed to support corn, soybeans, wheat, soybean meal, and DDG while meeting the demanding requirements of a high-volume grain export terminal. Energy consumption, equipment reliability, and long-term operating efficiency were also important considerations as part of the terminal’s wider modernization project.
“The E-Crane continues to prove why it’s such an asset to our operation. Its efficiency, reliability, and precision allow us to move more material safely while minimizing downtime.”
Michael Bates
The Solution:
Electric Barge Unloading for a Modernized Grain Terminal
CHS integrated a 1500C Series E-Crane into the wider expansion of its Myrtle Grove terminal to strengthen barge unloading capacity. The configuration combines high-volume material handling with electric operation, supporting the terminal’s objective of moving more grain efficiently while reducing energy consumption.
