Galloo France

As part of an ambitious expansion program, the Galloo Group put a second E-Crane into service at its Menen/Halluin scrap processing operation. Building on the positive experience with its first E-Crane, Galloo added a crawler-mounted 1000 Series E-Crane to feed a shear and shredder, increasing flexibility while benefiting from the reliability and durability of the equilibrium crane design.

The Challenge:
Expanding Scrap Processing with Greater Flexibility

Galloo Group was in the final phase of an ambitious expansion program and needed additional material handling capacity for its scrap processing operation. The company already had positive experience with its first E-Crane and valued the flexibility it brought to the operation. When another E-Crane became available at the end of 1999, Galloo saw an opportunity to expand capacity with a proven solution rather than relying on more traditional material handling equipment. The second machine needed to be integrated into the existing operation and configured specifically for feeding the shear and shredder.

“Based on the great experience we have had with our first E-Crane® and the flexibility it brings to our operation, we had to take advantage of this opportunity. The reliability and durability of this product is considerably longer than the more traditional material handling equipment. Also, because of the fact that a mobile, crawler mounted E-Crane® is driven by a generator set, we can use shore power when feeding our shear ‒ an important economic advantage!”

The Solution:
A Proven E-Crane Adapted for Scrap Processing

Working closely with Galloo, E-Crane Worldwide prepared and integrated the available machine for its new role in the scrap yard. The project combined the flexibility of a mobile crawler-mounted crane with modifications and equipment tailored to Galloo’s specific scrap processing requirements.

The solution includes:

  • A 1000 Series / 6317 CR-E E-Crane with 104 ft / 31.7 m reach, providing the working range required for feeding the shear and shredder.

  • A crawler-mounted configuration, giving Galloo the flexibility to move the E-Crane within its scrap processing operation.

  • A new 1.56 yd³ / 1.2 m³ scrap grab, built according to detailed customer specifications, together with a new overload system.

  • A 200-hp / 160 kW electric motor, with the crawler-mounted E-Crane able to use shore power while feeding the shear, providing what Galloo describes as an important economic advantage.

BUSINESS OUTCOME

The second E-Crane gave Galloo additional flexibility for feeding its shear and shredder while building on the proven reliability and durability of its first machine. Its crawler-mounted configuration also allows Galloo to combine mobile operation with the economic advantage of using shore power when working at the shear.
