The Challenge:
Replacing an Aging Shredder-Feeding Material Handler

Nucor General Recycling needed to replace the older material handler used to feed auto bodies into its shredder. Because the new machine had to occupy the same working area, the project required careful integration with the infrastructure surrounding the existing crane. Removing the old equipment and installing the replacement also had to be completed efficiently to minimize disruption to the scrap processing operation. Nucor therefore needed both a capable shredder-feeding solution and a well-coordinated turnkey installation.

The Solution:
A Turnkey E-Crane Replacement for Shredder Feeding

E-Crane engineers worked with Nucor to develop a turnkey solution covering both removal of the existing crane and installation of the new E-Crane. The machine was adapted to the existing site infrastructure, allowing Nucor to modernize the operation without completely redesigning the working area.

The solution includes:

A 700 Series / 4264 PD-E E-Crane with 86.5 ft / 26.4 m reach, configured specifically for feeding the shredder.
A Young 3×2 Bypass Grapple and 7.2 UStons / 6.5 Mtons lift capacity for handling auto bodies.
A 4-legged pedestal with custom stairways designed around the infrastructure that previously surrounded the old crane.
A 150-hp / 110 kW electric motor, providing electric-powered material handling for the shredder-feeding operation.
