The Challenge:
Replacing High-Maintenance Continuous Ship Unloaders
Sherwin Alumina relied on continuous ship unloaders (CSUs) for its bauxite unloading operation, but constant maintenance requirements and poor reliability were creating major vessel unloading delays. These interruptions resulted in significant demurrage costs and made the existing equipment increasingly expensive to operate. Sherwin needed a dependable replacement capable of handling bauxite from both Handymax and Panamax ships while maintaining high unloading capacity. Cost, reliability, maintenance requirements, and minimizing disruption during installation were all critical considerations.
